The following will walk you through the steps necessary to maintain passwords, groups and user accounts for Tallys! when installing a new program update.
Backup the Current User Information
Since passwords, group and user accounts are stored within the ‘program’, not the ‘datafile’, you should save them first, so you can load them into the new program.
To save your current user account information for use with the new program:
1. Open Tallys! with the ‘Managers’ password.
2. Under the File menu, choose Passwords.
3. In the Tallys! main menu, click on the Password Menu, choose Save Groups…

4. When prompted, save the .4ug file in an easy to remember location on your hard drive.
5. Close the Passwords window.
This will save your staff’s User names, groups and passwords (grayed icons) in a file that you can then load into the new Program update. -----------------------------You can now update your Tallys! program-------------------------
Reload User Information
To load your old user, groups and passwords back into the new database:
1. Open Tallys! With the ‘Managers’ password.
2. Under the File menu, choose Passwords.
3. In the Tallys! main menu, click on the Password Menu, choose Load Groups…
4. Locate and open the file that you saved earlier (with the .4ug extension).
5. Close the Passwords window.
